Basically this is a marketing endeavor for local businesses. Each day a single coupon is offered, usually at half price. I've bought $20 worth of food at Threadgill's and the Hyde Park Bar and Grill for $10. And I went to the Galaxy Cafe for the first time because I had purchased a Groupon. It's a cool place with good food.

The amounts of the Groupons vary based on the place along with the types of businesses which participate. And you'll want it or not. Just pass it by if it doesn't interest you. But often it's places I go anyway. And the Groupon makes it half price.
