To all my computo-nerd friends this will be old news. But I just learned a whole lot about a computer worm called Conficker. It was first detected in 2008. As of the writing of this article written in June of 2010 it had still not been defeated.
I'm recommending you read "The last word: The ultimate computer worm?" It's a great introduction into how worms work and the people who battle them.
