First Snow on the Truchas Peaks

I am grateful to be visiting my friends Peggy and Erik in Truchas, New Mexico. (In the house of a hundred stairs-more on that later.) Their house sits at 8300 feet and overlooks the Truchas Peaks. The peaks top out a bit over 13,000 feet. So they're no slouches.

When Ted, Charlotte and I were planning our trip I looked at the weather forecast and noted that it was supposed to be in the mid 20's at night! YOW!! For a girl from Texas, low 20's is a scary thought.

When we set out from Midland where Ted and Charolotte live, it was in the high 80's-and BTW Midland is at 3200 feet. As we went west and north we gained altitude at about the same rate we lost heat. Now we're in the land of sweaters and wool socks.

This morning we were treated to a once-per-year occurance - The first snow on the Truchas Peaks. I woke up in my comfy down comforter cocoon and looked out the window to the peaks. SNOW!!!

  1. Let's see some pictures of that snow! We sure could use some precipitation back here in Austin. Hope you are enjoying the trip.
