O Sister, Where Art Thou?

.
I just spent 15 minutes reading this article from a 2003 Texas Monthly. It's really interesting, so I thought I'd pass it on.

Meet "the Goree Girls". Back in the late '30's they were a group of women from the Goree State Prison near Huntsville who formed up into a country band. They were featured on WBAP radio. Which, by the way, was owned by Amon Carter. The last known Goree Girl died in 2003 just months after she was interviewed.

Wow, according to the Wiki they may make a movie about them, with Jennifer Aniston.

Regardless of it's "movie" future this article is an interesting insight into the times. I enjoyed it, perhaps you will too.
