Mardi Gras revelry demystified

.
I just stumbled upon Seersucker and Sazeracs. A blog of the south. The March 3rd post explains a bit about each of the Mardi Gras "krewes". They are the groups, some of which have been around for a hundred years, who do the floats and have the giant balls during Mardi Gras season. As it turns out some of the balls also serve as coming out parties for local society girls.

This post was incredibly interesting to a non-initiate. I knew Mardi Gras was more than drunken frat boys but know I know even a bit more. Enjoy.

NOTE: I just read through all the entries. An explanation of the tradition of Krewes is here. Start with it.
