I just need to buy something.

.
Do you do this? You feel a niggly sense of discontent. So you figure out something to assuage the itch. But the new something-a new hobby or passtime-requires accoutrements so you have to (read: GET to) go shopping. You acquire whatever is needed to do the activity and never do it. So, in effect the way to assuage the itch of discontent becomes acquiring new stuff. I have a bunch of stuff I've acquired in that way.

Here's a piece from Leo Babauta. I just stumbled upon it but I get the idea. Not sure I'm ready to subscribe.

mnmlist : less

Stop buying unnecessary things.
Toss half your stuff, learn contentedness.
Reduce half again.
List 4 essential things in your life,
stop doing non-essential things.
Do these essentials first each day, clear distractions
focus on each moment.
Let go of attachment to doing, having more.
Fall in love with less.

I did add his blog to my feed reader. I wonder if cyber acquisition is exempt?
