Well, I don't know anyone who's considering Culinary school but I think this article generalizes to lots of careers. I'll say up front that I have a bit of a crush on Anthony Bourdain. He's a bad boy. Girls like bad boys.
Regardless So You Wanna Be a Chef is a great piece about finding a career and making the right choices. Bourdain suggests that unless you can go to the finest Culinary Academy you are better off skipping the student loans. He suggests taking what money you have or can borrow and camping out at the back door of a 3 star restaurant till the chef takes pity on you and lets you peel potatoes.
I think there's a real parallel here. to the post I did recently about "less is better". My point was, I often buy the accoutrements of a hobby or vocation but never really DO the thing. It's easier to spend some money than really dive in. On some level that's Bourdain's point.
Read the article. Tell me what you think.
