Words, Words, Words. Unlike Eliza Doolittle I never get sick of words

.

Oh boy a new blog  — Hot Words. I've just finished reading a post about the word SOPHOMORE. The best part was the ancillary definition of PHILOSOPHER.

This from the blog post:
Sophomore: n“suggestive of or resembling the traditional sophomore; intellectually pretentious, overconfident, conceited, etc., but immature.”
Sophomore derives from an earlier English term, sophumer, which is a variation of the Greek sophism, “clever device.” A sophist is literally “one who is wise,” (sophia is Greek for wisdom), but the term became derogatory in Greek culture, because it seemed a little unwise (or simply arrogant) to proclaim about one’s own wisdom. Teachers with a tad more humility came to be known as philosophers, literally “lovers of wisdom.”

Whew-glad I was only a sophomore twice for a year each time.

NOTE:
In reading more of the posts I've come across one which is near and dear to my heart. You'll find it here.

As many folks know I'm a bit of an astronomy nerd. This post is a great explanation of the term the Sun is in Virgo. How'd the sun "get" somewhere? Read this explanation if you've ever wondered about this. If "the Sun was in Virgo-or Taurus - or Gemini -whatever - when you were born it's the same thing as saying that constellation is your "sun sign". Or in short hand for the bar scene, just "your sign".
