I can name a hundred countries and locate them on the correct continent.

Or so I thought. After writing that I thought I'd just check. So I went to this site to test myself. You have 10 minutes to name as many countries as you can. I got 77-out of a possible 192. And it was a struggle.

But 77 is way better than I would have done before I decided to teach myself a bit of geography. Thanks to the net and mostly to a great site called Shepherd Software I have learned where Angola is. On which continent Equatorial Guinea resides. The difference between Slovenia and Slovakia. And where the Galapagos Islands are. (I always thought they were off the SOUTHEAST coast of South America-turns out that's the Falklands.)

If you've heard of and can place all those mentioned above then you are in way better shape than I was when I began. Take the 10 minute test-it's fun. If you can't get many or wish you knew more try the Shepherd Software site. It's all on the net-nothing to download or pay for.

They teach by continent and there are degrees of difficulty. You just work your way up. First they just show you the countries and the names. From that point it becomes a series of quizzes. Each with less information provided. Just check it out.

Anyway then next time I'm at a cocktail party and Mali comes up I'll know where it is. Will you?
