The only thing these three have in common is an evening of surfing.

Instapaper is a web and iPhone app. You begin by installing the "Read Later" button in your web browser's toolbar. When you see a page/article you want to read later you just click the button. The app saves the page for your later reading pleasure. You can stop there and use it solely on your computer for a quick way to store articles you want to go back to. The article I read also said something about accessing the pages off-line. But since I'm almost always connected I haven't figured out that part yet.
The cool part is that it's also an iPhone app. So, on a night like this when the Vikings are getting their a-- handed to them you can surf and store up cool pages to view on your iPhone when you're waiting to get your driver's license renewed. Or for your always-late colleague.
I've installed Instapaper on my 'puter and iPhone. I'll let you know how it does. The free app for the phone only stores 10 pages. If it's great I'll buy the full app for $5. Maybe I'll use the iTunes Gift Card I received for Christmas!

OK - I've been experimenting with ringtones.

This is a great tutorial for making a ringtone from a song in your iTunes library. You choose about 30 seconds of a song from your collection and follow a couple of steps and you have a ringtone. Add your new ringtone to your iTunes ringtone library, sync w/ your phone and Viola!

If you'd rather have a custom ringtone Ringtone Recorder is really fun. I've been messing with this for a while. It's a free iPhone app. You just record yourself - or someone else - and upload it to your library. The fun thing is you can get all sorts of folks to record a message urging you to answer your phone because they're calling. Then assign that ringtone to that contact and when they call you'll hear their voice.
WARNING: It's a little startling the first few times you hear your own voice or your beloved's coming from your pocket. And it's especially fun when you're in a meeting!
