Who says you can't change a 40 year habit?!?!?!?
Friends, it's true, after 40 years of supporting R.J. Reynolds I've been smoke free for 52 days. I wanted to take a minute to tell you how amazed and excited I am to be a non-smoker! YIPPEE!!
Here are the three contributing factors.
1. Richard, my new beau was the one who got me started...or is that stopped? When we met he mentioned that he had a doctor's appointment coming up and was going to talk to his doctor about quitting-whatever it took. And he did. He got a prescription for Zyban (Welbutrin). When he came home from the dr's with the prescription I realized he was serious. So I went to my dr. and got some too.
Richard said two things to me which really had an impact. First he told me that he wanted to be successful so I would be proud of him. And then went on to say that he would be really disappointed in me if I failed. Whoa...talk about pressure.
2. Zyban. I think this stuff, coupled with nicotine gum really takes the edge off. Along with going away during the first week and being among non-smokers it made quitting bearable.
3. GOD. Every time I want a cigarette I ask God for the strength to resist. Needless to say, there has been a lot of communing.
So dear friends. 52 days and counting! HURRAH!!!
Congratulations! I'm proud of you guys. Keep on keepin' on.
ReplyDeleteHooray for Shelly and Richard! It's great that you were able to support each other through it!
ReplyDeleteShelley, that is an amazing feat! I hope that it gets easier with time. Aaron and I have finally quit for good too. I think you're right that it helps to stay away from it for awhile. Think about how healthy you're making your body! I heard that after 7 years it's as if you never smoked :)
