Went to visit Richard's hometown of Cushing OK this past weekend. Richard says it's a 7 hour drive. Funny it took us 9 hours each way. Hmmm.
What the map does not show is the very lovely scenery on the last leg into Cushing. That area has had a lot of rain on their rolling hills so everything's green and verdant. We made that leg of the journey at the beginning of the day. The dew was heavy in the fields. I even saw a couple of hawks looking for breakfast.
Richard's son Aaron, his wife Lori and their two sons, Tristan (7) and Cayden (5) live in Cushing. So, Grampa had to go see the boys.
We ended up on Saturday afternoon in the town park for a festival. Saw a bunch of folks who are relatives or friends of "Rick". I assume those are not mutually exclusive categories.
Best part was watching Papaw Rick and his grandsons.

I also met two more of Richard's sisters. I got a kick out of their family stories. But, phew---this man has a large bunch of siblings. That makes three I've met with five more to go.
Saturday night we went to a certifiable Oklahoma beer joint. Although it was way cleaner than most beer joints I've been in I felt at home once the Tequila kicked in. We went with Aaron and Lori. Both really nice folks. I'm hoping they'll pack up the boys and come down for Guy Clark and Ruthie Foster the weekend before Thanksgiving. We'll see...
