...or, a great way to surf the net.
We all enjoy reading sites we've searched out. But what about the zillion and one web pages we don't even know about? That's where StumbleUpon comes in. Heck I would never have found this site without it.
StumbleUpon is a great little web plug in. You download a little piece of software and it puts a toolbar on your browser. When you first boot it you are asked to declare your preferences for content. Everything from conservative politics to gardening. And you can change the preferences any time.
Then, when you find yourself with a little "surfing time" you just hit the Stumble! button on the toolbar. You're automatically taken to a web page which loosely fits your parameters. To further hone your preferences there are little thumbs up and thumbs down buttons on the toolbar. Don't much care for the page? Just give it a thumbs down and you won't see it again - and others like it will not be displayed. Same for the thumbs up-if you like it let StumbleUpon know and you'll see more like it.
One nice thing is it samples from all web pages, not just home pages. I often end up at a cool interior page. To see more of the site I just delete all the text after .com in the URL and it takes me to the home page.
A great deal of the unusual stuff I've posted here at Maybethinking.com comes from an hour of Stumbling. And I've yet to scrape my knees!
