I never heard my Father say it.

Everybody I know has heard "bloody" as an expletive. Mostly on racy British PBS shows and movies. I once asked my Dad about it. I am glad to say that his explanation, now some 20 years old, is borne out by the article from 1914.

The New York Times seems to keep an on-line archive. The link leads to a pdf of a letter to the Editor from John L. Shine. The language is incredible.

"...still the force of the tradition obtains."

"...deprecate it's use."

Here's one I have no idea about
"see it's complete elesion."

The pdf is worth grabbing. More about blood in days to come.
