Walkin' Talkin' Time

...
I love clocks. About 5 years ago, as my kind friends will attest, I went on a clock making bender. I made clocks out of anything that would sit still long enough for me to drill a 7/16" hole in it. And an off-center hole was all the better.

I bought a pot load of clock mechanisms and even more hands. I formed the hands into curliques, colored them red, green, blue, black whatever - and never included numbers. You'd be amazed how easy it is to tell time without numbers. It just takes a little getting used to. (Of course this mostly applies to analog clocks.)

A partial list of my creations includes a scale model (:->) of a brown paper shopping bag which is only 4" tall with a clock on one side. It hangs next to my couch. Another masterpiece, this time for the bathroom, is a clock made out of a Chanel No 5 box. It, too, is about 4" tall.

In my cube at work I have a wonderful clock which is about 10" square. The face is an illustration of a clown from a children's book. The clown is juggling a red ball. When I first made the clock I attached a 1/4" red wooden ball to the second hand. It followed the arc of one of the balls in the illustration across the clock face - exactly once per minute.

But I digress. One thing no clock of mine has ever done is walk away. This cannot be said for the clocks below. They've caught my fancy. And I'm a clock aficionado.

I saw these on Perpetual Kid.

This one is from Gadgeteer. But they're all made by Tokyobay.

One thing I have learned is, if you do NOT pay attention to a clock it will cease to work. You can change the batteries and reset it. But if it's in an out of the way place and you never look at it, after a while, no matter what you do, it won't work. Clocks need love too.
