Today was a great day...

...
In retrospect today was not only great. It was also highly unusual. Today was the first day in 25 years that I didn't have a job. Twenty-five years. Yep, it was a highly unusual day.

Woke up at 7:45. Damn...didn't even sleep late. And on the subject of sleep, somehow I didn't get my nap either. So, while it was a great day, since I missed my nap, it cannot be said that it was a perfect day.

I did many things on this the first day of the rest of my life. Even took a walk on a lovely 75 degree afternoon. And I made lots of lists. What I need to do. Who I need to talk to. The usual sorts of things.

Then I started thinking about where I might visit since I don't have to go to work. Dallas, Houston, Venice, CA, Virginia, Mexico?

Ahhhhh the Yucatan. So, I've just emailed the proprietress of Hotel Tierra Maya in Xcalak. It's about 15 miles north of the Belize border on the coast. I've stayed there the past two years and it's paradise. I told her I'd work for the next 3 months for room and board.

Along with the perfect weather and the outpouring of love from my friends, writing that email made it a great day.

Tomorrow I might do a little research into the Peace Corps. And if I get an email back saying, "Come on down." Well, that might just make tomorrow a perfect day.

  2. I'm totally inspired by your outlook. I'm glad we had lunch on Thursday. I just wish the events after lunch hadn't occurred. If you go to Mexico, I'm totally coming to visit!
