Hamburgers to Salisbury Steak and more

Aerial view of Windsor Castle

Two nifto facts I learned watching TV on Wednesday night.

First - I learned that Windsor Castle is 20 miles from London. I don't know why I thought it was in Downtown London but I've always imagined it there. As it turns out it's not. If you follow the M4 WEST out of London past Heathrow you'll see it.

Second - During the First World War sentiment for Germans in England was pretty ugly. The royal family's last name was Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Since that was a decidedly "un-English" name George V issued a royal proclamation and changed their name. The had gone to Windsor Castle to decide what name to choose and Voila! The house of Windsor was born...in Windsor house.
